SMPS Maryland is looking for volunteers to join our Chapter Committees. Joining a committee is a great way to connect with the Maryland A/E/C community, meet new people and gain exposure to marketing and new business efforts. Below you will find descriptions for each committee and the contact information for the respective Director(s). If you are interested in committee involvement, please contact the Director!
Communications
The Communications Committee handles all of SMPS Maryland’s marketing, public relations and promotions.
Volunteer activities may include:
- Managing the Chapter’s email efforts
- Managing and posting through the Chapter’s social media channels
- Managing and coordinating the promotion of Chapter events, initiatives and news
- Ensuring the website is up-to-date

Membership
The Membership Committee actively promotes membership in SMPS Maryland and provides ongoing support to members.
Volunteer activities may include:
- Cultivating relationships with prospective and current members
- Coordinating and implementing a yearly membership drive
- Planning and coordinating new member orientations and member appreciation events

Programs
The Programs Committee is responsible for planning and executing a series of panels and events on current and/or upcoming market trends and opportunities with speakers generally comprised of potential clients.
Volunteer activities may include:
- Identifying and recruiting ideal speakers and moderators related to the subject matter
- Working closely with the communications committee to promote events
- Researching and coordinating with potential venues
- Providing day-of event support including working at the registration table, event set-up and clean up

Special Events
The Special Events Committee is responsible for developing, arranging, and hosting all Chapter social events. These may include the Annual Kick-Off Event, Holiday Party, Networking Mixers, Annual Awards Event, and other events determined by the Board.
Volunteer activities may include:
- Working closely with the communications committee to promote events
- Researching and coordinating with potential venues
- Providing day-of event support including working at the registration table, event set-up and clean up

Education
The Education Committee handles the planning of educational events including First Fridays Exchanges, Coordinators Circle, SAC Roundtables and Professional Day.
Volunteer activities may include:
- Inviting and coordinating with subject matter experts
- Providing logistical support as needed for First Fridays Exchanges, Coordinator Circles, and other educational events
- Working closely with the communications committee to promote events
- Providing day-of event support including working at the registration table, event set-up and clean up
Director: Julia Webster
Sponsorship
The Sponsorship Committee is tasked with designing SMPS Maryland’s annual sponsorship package and recruiting sponsors.
Volunteer activities may include:
- Ongoing communication with sponsors to ensure they understand – and are fully taking advantage of – their benefits
- Planning and coordinating the annual Thanks for Giving sponsors-only event

Additional Volunteer Opportunities
In addition to the variety of committee work identified above, the Chapter frequently needs volunteer support for short-term activities. Additional volunteer opportunities include:
- Planning and coordinating additional Chapter events such as the Key Awards and other programs identified by the Board of Directors
- Supporting the Chapter’s CPSM program including the Study Group and CPSM week activities as needed
- Coordinating and hosting live webinars presented by SMPS HQ
- Participating in the Chapter’s mentoring program
- Supporting the Chapter’s community service efforts
- Other activities identified by the Board of Directors
