InDesign Tip #2 – Paragraph Styles
February 19, 2021
What is a Paragraph Style?
A paragraph style applies a set of attributes to text in your document. Paragraph styles will be applied to entire paragraphs. Placing your cursor anywhere inside a paragraph (you do not need to highlight the entire paragraph) and clicking your set paragraph style will apply the style.
By clicking on the “hamburger” at the top right of the Paragraph Style, select New Paragraph Style from the drop down. Using the categories on the left, you can select the attributes you would like to assign to your paragraph style.
Why is this important to an AEC Marketer?
The benefit to any “style” is that once it’s set, you can make changes globally, or across your entire proposal. For example, if you realize after you’ve been working on your proposal that the RFP states the font size needs to be 12pt, you can change this in a few clicks throughout the entire document, rather than manually changing the font everywhere in the document.
Paragraph styles are best used on the majority of the text in your proposal or document. Character styles are better used for things like headers or places where you’d like added emphasis.
